What should you do if the camera or microphone does not work?
A black preview is usually a permission problem. In the browser’s site settings, enable the camera and microphone for this site, then reload the page. If another app or tab is using the camera, close it; two applications cannot share the camera at the same time. On a phone, permissions can be switched off not only in browser settings but also in the operating system’s app permissions; check both places.
If the picture comes through but freezes, the problem is usually the connection. Stop downloads and try a more stable network. Buying minutes does not fix a hardware or permission problem; fix the device first, then buy time.

Why is sound as important as picture in webcam chat?
If the other person sees you but cannot hear you, there is no conversation. Headphones cut echo; sound from the speaker can feed back into the microphone and make the other side hear her own voice. Speaking too close to the microphone distorts the sound, too far makes it muffled; an arm’s length is enough on most devices.
Choose a quiet room and turn off notifications; every incoming message sound interrupts the conversation. On a phone, headphones instead of the speaker, and on a computer a headset with a microphone, make things more comfortable. If there is no sound, check the mute button first, then the browser’s microphone permission.
